Get 2 Edu Estates: Kamat

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Monday said that
an integrated education policy for Goa is in the final stage of formulation.
He also said the government proposes to establish two educational
estates for each district of Goa under the educational estates policy,
an official press release said.
Kamat was making a presentation on the initiatives offered by the
Goa government in higher and technical education in Goa during the
panel discussion on the session on "Educational Reforms: Making
the system deliver" at a function in Delhi.
The chief minister highlighted the Goa Scholar Scheme through which
a one-time award of upto 15,000 USD are given for pursuing education
abroad or Rs 2 lakh per annum for two years for perusing education
in India. Kamat also highlighted the interest-free education loan
scheme for higher education for pursuing the same abroad and in India.
Kamat said an interest-free loan of Rs 40,000 given to teachers to
purchase laptops was repayable over a period of 10 years. Under the
infrastructure development scheme for higher education, the state
government sanctions a maximum of Rs 50 lakh. Of this, Rs 25 lakh
is in the form of loan to be repaid over 15 years. The balance Rs
25 lakhs is sanctioned as subsidy. Kamat said Rs 6 crore have been
spent so far. He also said that MoU has been signed with IIT, Mumbai
for upgradation of Goa Engineering College.
